Question:
How is the service behind G0278 performed?
Answer:
During a cardiac cath, the physician may inject contrast in the distal portion of the aorta or in the ipsilateral (same side of puncture site) femoral or iliac lower extremity artery. The catheter remains non-selective in the distal portion of the aorta or in the ipsilateral femoral or iliac lower extremity artery for the purpose of evaluating either the unilateral lower extremity or bilateral lower extremity vessels. Images are obtained, and documentation of finding’s are described in the dictated report. Documentation should clearly state that a non-selective injection was performed for evaluation of either a unilateral lower extremity or bilateral lower extremity artery(s). This code is only to be assigned when non-selective lower extremity angiography is performed at the same time as a diagnostic cardiac catheterization.
