Cardiology Question for the Week of December 4, 2017

Question:

Is the coding of a diagnostic cardiac catheterization different based on the access into the body, for example: radial versus femoral artery?

Answer:

No, the vascular access site utilized does not influence the coding. The CPT® codes for cardiac catheterization include the access into the vascular system.
