The ED physician ordered NS 1000 ml @ 250 ml/hr and CT abdomen with contrast. Are we able to code 96360 for the IV hydration?
The answer depends on why the IV NS is ordered. Check the physician orders and documentation to see what condition or diagnosis the physician indicated for the fluid. If there is no supporting condition or diagnosis for the IV fluid, likely it was used as a prophylactic measure to prevent contrast-induced kidney injury. Fluid used as a prophylactic measure for imaging studies with contrast may not be coded as IV hydration.
