Question:

Which revenue code and HCPCS code should be used for reporting 1,000 cc of IV normal saline, and how many units should be billed?

Answer:

The saline solution is reported with revenue code 0258, IV Solutions. The drug classification for the normal saline is “nutritional feedings, parenteral hydration products, etc.,” which is reported with HCPCS code J7030, per 1,000 cc. Since this patient received 1,000 cc of normal saline, the reported unit of service is 1.
