Question:

What codes are used to report cytopathology procedures and smears, and which codes are used for histology procedures and stains?

Answer:

Codes 88104–88199 report various cytopathology (cytology) procedures and smears while histology procedures and stains are reported with codes 88300–There are four revenue codes that may be assigned to the CPT®s: 0310 (general), 0311 (cytology), 0312 (histology) or 0319 (other).
