Pharmacy Question for the Week of November 30, 2020

Question:

Do we need to bill for monitoring services when further monitoring is required during drug administration?

Answer:

Some drugs are known to have side effects ranging from nausea, vomiting, or headache to respiratory distress, anaphylaxis, or cardiac arrest. Because of the severity of some side effects, close observation and additional monitoring of the patient may be required. This cost is inherent in the drug administration services, and no additional charges are generated for monitoring the patients.
