Question:
What are DMARDs?
Answer:
Disease-modifying anti-rheumatic drugs, or DMARDs, traditionally have been used to treat rheumatoid arthritis and other autoimmune causes of arthritis. Methotrexate is often the first DMARD prescribed for rheumatoid arthritis and usually provides relief of at least some symptoms. Methotrexate has been shown to slow the progression of rheumatoid arthritis and improve a patient’s quality of life. The drug itself can be highly toxic.
