Radiology Question for the Week of September 7, 2020

Question:

Are there any updates to thorax coding for 2021?

Answer:

For 2021 CT of thorax codes 71250, 71260, 71270 are expected to receive updates specifying these codes are diagnostic. In addition, a code will likely be created representing CT of the thorax for reporting low-dose lung cancer screening. HCPCS code G0297 received identification on the CMS high-value growth screen and subsequently referred to the CPT Editorial Panel to create a Category I CPT® code that specifies low-dose CT for lung cancer screening.
