Question:
What are the latest guidelines from CMS regarding respiratory infection data reporting for hospitals?
Answer:
As outlined in the FY2025 Hospital Inpatient Prospective Payment System (IPPS) and Long-Term Care Hospital Prospective Payment System (LTCH PPS) final rule, CMS is renewing and revising the hospital and critical access hospital (CAH) Conditions of Participation (CoPs) data reporting requirements for data related to respiratory infections, such as confirmed illness, hospital capacity, and limited patient demographic information. Such data collection and reporting outside of emergencies will help ensure that hospitals and CAHs have appropriate insights into evolving infection control needs. As of November 1, 2024, hospitals and CAHs are required to electronically report information about COVID-19, influenza, and RSV on a schedule specified by the Secretary of HHS.
