Question:

Is there a CPT® code for the delivery of oxygen in the operating room in 2025?

Answer:

Delivery of oxygen in the operating room and recovery room is routine to the procedure and inherent in the reimbursement of the “surgical package.” There is no CPT code for oxygen; however, it may be reported under revenue code 0271, designating it as a supply. It must be billed in “measurable” units that can be monitored, such as per liter, per hour, per quarter hour, or per minute, and the oxygen must be discontinued as soon as it is no longer medically necessary. Daily or “per shift” oxygen charges are not appropriate.
