Question:
Do you have tips for reporting 37247 and 37248?
Answer:
Code to the highest order in each vascular family for final catheter placement when separate catheterization codes are allowed. Code each vessel entered selectively. Angioplasty (without stenting) of any artery except lower extremity arteries for occlusive disease, intracranial, coronary, pulmonary, or dialysis circuit would be reported by 37246 for the initial artery and 37247 for each additional artery treated. Venous angioplasty, except for within the dialysis circuit, is reported with code 37248 for the initial vein treated and 37249 for each additional vein. These codes include both the procedure and all imaging necessary to perform the procedure.
37247 | Transluminal balloon angioplasty (except lower extremity artery(ies) for occlusive disease, intracranial, coronary, pulmonary, or dialysis circuit), open or percutaneous, including all imaging and radiological supervision and interpretation necessary to perform the angioplasty within the same artery; each additional artery (List separately in addition to code for primary procedure) |
37248 | Transluminal balloon angioplasty (except dialysis circuit), open or percutaneous, including all imaging and radiological supervision and interpretation necessary to perform the angioplasty within the same vein; initial vein |
