Sources tell RACmonitor that Performant, the Recovery Audit Contractor (RAC) for Region 1, has been approved by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) to begin recovery auditing activity.
The information came on Friday, March 10 via an email from a Medicare Administrative Contractor (MAC) to a Kentucky facility that was forwarded to RACmonitor.
Region 1 includes Michigan, Indiana, Kentucky, Ohio, Vermont, New Hampshire, Maine, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Connecticut, and New York. Performant, which also was awarded Region 5, is among four other RACs that were awarded contracts by CMS on Oct. 31, 2016. Other RACs include Cotivity, LLC, which has regions 2 and 3, and HMS Federal Solutions, which has region 4.
