Question:
An interventional cardiologist performs a PTCA in the LAD followed by drug-eluting stent placement in the same vessel; subsequently, the physician next performs a PTCA in the RCA. How would we code for this scenario?
Answer:
In this situation, you would report the following, depending on the circumstances:
Physician — 92928-LD, 92920-RC
Hospital — C9600-LD, 92920-RC
Two primary codes are reported because two major coronary arteries were treated. The stenting of the LAD is reported with code 92928 or C9600 (DES). PTCA of the right coronary artery (RCA) is reported with code 92920.
