Cardiology Question for the Week of June 24, 2024

Question:

When should code 75774 be submitted, and when should it not be used, in the context of additional selective catheterizations after a basic study?

Answer:

Submit code 75774 only when performing additional selective catheterizations after the basic study. Do not use this code when performing extra views, extra runs, obliques, etc. when the catheter is not selectively advanced into another vessel after the primary procedure. Do not use code 75774 for routine “completion” angiography performed on every study. Use this code only when there is a true need for additional diagnostic imaging after the basic/primary study. Physician documentation should clearly state the medical necessity for this additional selective imaging.
