Question:
When reporting code 93503, should vascular access, catheter insertion, positioning, and removal all be separately documented, or are they included in the primary code?
Answer:
Code 93503 includes vascular access, insertion, and positioning of the right heart catheter, and eventual removal of the catheter. If meeting documentation criteria, moderate (conscious) sedation is separately codeable. Code 93503 should not be reported with Category III code 0632T (percutaneous transcatheter ultrasound ablation of nerves innervating the pulmonary arteries) when performed at the same session.
