Question:

What is the AMA’s stance on generative AI?

Answer:

With the rapid rise of generative AI tools, the AMA encourages organizations to develop forward-thinking policies that mitigate risks before deploying these systems. Governance structures should be proactive, setting limits on the capabilities of generative AI, particularly in clinical decision-making and patient interactions. The ability of generative AI to create new content (such as reports or care summaries) poses both opportunities and challenges. It can speed up processes but also introduces the risk of miscommunication or errors if not appropriately managed.
