Question:

With calcium scoring code 75571, 3D post-processing CPT code 76377 can be coded at the same session with a modifier. My radiologists always do the reformation of images for these studies on a separate workstation. With proper documentation, can I assign CPT code 76377 on those studied?

Answer:

No, the parenthetical notes found in CPT® after codes 76376 and 76377 include a litany of codes in which 3D post-processing is included. Codes describing cardiac CT code (75571–75574) are part of this list and include 3D post-processing. As such, you may not report CPT code 76376 or 76377 for 3D post-processing of images for 75571 or any of the other cardiac CT/CTA codes. A modifier is allowed for those instances when you also perform another procedure other than cardiac CT for which 3D post-processing (76376 or 76377) is separately allowed.
