Question:

What revenue codes should be used for the 86XXX and 87XXX laboratory test series, and do all MACs require third-digit specificity?

Answer:

The revenue code for the 86XXX series is 0302, and for the 87XXX series 0306. However, many MACs do not require third-digit specificity for laboratory testing, and in most states, revenue code 0300 or even 0309 works well. Your patient financial services staff should check with your MAC and other major payers to determine their policies in your state.
