Question:

Can you tell me more about when to use initial service codes versus additional codes for drug administration services?

Answer:

Under most circumstances, only one initial service is performed at each patient encounter. After the initial service all drug administration services, including infusions, through the same vascular access site are reported using the additional, sequential or concurrent codes.

Fee schedules, relative value units, conversion factors and/or related components are not assigned by the AMA, are not part of CPT, and the AMA is not recommending their use.
