Question:

Does Medicare have a MRI coverage policy for cardiac-related electronic devices?

Answer:

As reported in provider-information memo MM10877, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) have revised the magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) policy related to patients with cardiac-implanted electronic devices (CIED). In the revised version of the Medicare Claims Processing Manual, chapter 13, Section 40 you will find an overview of the MRI procedures for CIEDs, which have varying dates of coverage. For more information, go to https://www.cms.gov/Outreach-and-Education/Medicare-Learning-Network-MLN/MLNMattersArticles/downloads/MM10877.pdf.
