Question:

How should coding be reported when an additional second or third-order vessel is selectively studied within the same vascular family?

Answer:

When an additional second- or third-order vessel is selectively studied within the same vascular family, coding rules state that +36248 must be reported for these additional vessels. Code +36248 is defined as an add-on code (denoted by the “+” symbol) and does not require modifier -59 when reported in conjunction with 36245–36247. Coders should also note that this code should not be used to report the placement of an arterial or venous closure device
