Question:

What is the appropriate CPT® code for magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) internal auditory canals (IACs)?

Answer:

MRI of the IACs is billed with the appropriate MRI brain code (70551–70553). In most cases, a few sequences of the IACs are performed with an MRI brain. In that case, bill only one code. If an MRI brain is performed at one session and later in the day a separate MRI IAC is ordered and performed, then you would bill two MRI brain codes.
