Question:

What code can we report with 36600 for the instrumentation used for blood gas analysis? May we bill separately for pulse oximetry procedures when performed to determine oxygen saturation levels?

Answer:

Arterial specimen collection is defined by code 36600. Depending on the instrumentation used for blood gas analysis, either code 82803 or 82805 should be reported. Do not bill separately for the pulse oximetry procedures when performed to determine oxygen saturation levels.
