Question:
What components and related procedures are included in code 94060, and how does it compare to other pulmonary function testing codes such as 94070 and 94150?
Answer:
In code 94060, bronchospasms are studied before and after a bronchodilator treatment, which can be administered either as an aerosol or parenteral. The spirometry (as defined by 94010) is performed twice. The NCCI notes that the following codes are components of 94060: 94010 (spirometry), 94200 (MVV), 94375 (respiratory flow volume loop), 94640 (non-pressured inhalation treatment), 94664 (aerosol inhalation), and 94728 (oscillometry). In addition, the NCCI indicates that the spirometry procedure as described by 94060 is a component of 94070 (post-exposure bronchospasm evaluation). CPT® parenthetical guidelines indicate that 94150 (vital capacity) is also a component of 94060.
