Question:

Can we report 94664 more than once per day when IPPB treatments are included for the acute airway?

Answer:

Code 94664 is intended to be reported only once per day for the demonstration and evaluation of the patient’s ability to correctly administer the bronchodilator utilizing the appropriate delivery device. Note that to report aerosol, nebulizer, MDI, or IPPB treatments of the acute airway, you will need to choose the code that expresses the full scope and details of the service completed. Refer to codes 94640, 94644, or +94645, as appropriate. A September 2010 AMA Coding Communication provides instruction that addresses the frequently asked question of how to code and bill for PEP therapy. Understand that the code 94664 is to be reported for demonstration and evaluation of a patient’s utilization of the patient controlled, hand-held, airway oscillating device.
