Telemedicine is one of the nation’s hot healthcare topics of late, and it’s the lead story during the next edition of Monitor Mondays.

Two weeks ago, the U.S. Senate passed the Creating High-Quality Results and Outcomes Necessary to Improve Chronic (CHRONIC) Care Act: a piece of legislation that changes reimbursement by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) for Medicare beneficiaries with chronic conditions. The Act also provides additional telehealth coverage under Medicare Advantage.

Earlier last month, the House of Representatives passed a bill – the Telehealth Access in Medicare Act – that would expand telehealth coverage to Medicare Advantage plans while authorizing reimbursement at rates comparable to in-person patient visits.

Could these new reimbursement policies for telemedicine services expand its adoption? Joining the broadcast will be attorney Dale C. Van Demark, a partner at McDermott Will & Emery in Washington, D.C., who will report on the state of healthcare’s embrace of telemedicine.

The broadcast rundown also will include:

  • Monday Rounds: Ronald Hirsch, MD, vice president of R1 Physician Advisory Services, will be making his Monday Rounds with another installment of his popular segment.
  • Focus on Denial Management: Maria Bounos, the practice lead for coding and reimbursement solutions at Wolters Kluwer, will report on denial management strategies. She will also conduct the Monitor Mondays Listener Survey.
  • Focus on Payers: Shannon DeConda, the founder of the National Alliance of Medical Auditing Specialists (NAMAS), will return to the broadcast to report on a developing story about UnitedHealthcare’s intention to eliminate consultation codes. Will it ultimately happen? Stay tuned.
  • America’s Rural Health Report: Topic authority Janelle Ali-Dinar, vice president of rural health for MyGenetx, will return to report on saving healthcare for rural populations.
  • Risky Business: Healthcare attorney David Glaser with Fredrikson & Byron will have another example of a potentially troublesome issue that could pose a risk to your facility.
