National Quality Forum (NQF) issued two new reports this week that provide guidance to advance health information technology, with the intent of making healthcare more effective and safer for all Americans. The agency’s first report identifies critical areas where measurement can effectively assess the quality and impact of telehealth services. In the second report, NQF assesses the current state of interoperability and its impact on quality processes and outcomes.

Returning to the upcoming edition of Monitor Mondays after a long absence to report our lead story will be Deborah Grider, who is currently a coding consultant for the Society of Critical Care Medicine. And one of the major issues facing the Society, as well as other organizations, is understanding the regulations surrounding telemedicine.

The broadcast rundown also will include:

  • Monday Rounds: Ronald Hirsch, MD, vice president of R1 Physician Advisory Services, will be making his Monday Rounds with another installment of his popular segment.
  • Hot Topics: Monitor Mondays senior correspondent Nancy Beckley, president and CEO for Nancy Beckley and Associates, will have all the latest news and Monitor Monday Listener Survey.
  • America’s Rural Health Report: Topic authority Janelle Ali-Dinar, vice president of rural health for MyGenetx, will report on saving healthcare for rural populations.
  • Risky Business: Healthcare attorney David Glaser with Fredrikson & Byron will report on last week’s highly publicized encounter of University of Utah Hospital nurse Alex Wubbels with a Salt Lake City Police detective.
  • Focus on Appeals: Denise Wilson, vice president of Intersect Health + AppealMasters, will have the Monitor Mondays appeals report.
