Question:

If you do the AHG technique, do you report all three of the codes, or just 86922?

Answer:

To avoid triggering an NCCI edit, report the immediate spin technique described by CPT 86920 and/or the AHG technique described by 86922, if performed. The incubation technique is considered a sequential procedure that is bundled into 86920. Only those crossmatching techniques used should be included on the claim. The billing unit should reflect the number of times the technique is performed. The electronic compatibility test, if billed on the same claim with CPT 86920 or 86922, will also trigger an edit because electronic and conventional compatibility testing would generally not be performed on the same date of service.
