Question:

What revenue code or codes do you use when coding for blood transfusions? Does it matter which blood product is used?

Answer:

Regardless of the coding you use for the blood product, use revenue code 0391 to bill for the actual blood transfusion. Some payers require that you also assign code 36430 (transfusion, blood or blood components).
