Question:
What task force was created to respond to public health emergencies?
Answer:
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), and the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) developed and launched the Tri-Agency Task Force for Emergency Diagnostics (TTFED) in response to public health emergencies that pose a critical threat to Americans. In addition, a public health emergency could create a costly burden on facilities and on the federal government. TTFED will help implement the rapid creation and distribution of in vitro diagnostic (IVD) tests to clinical and public laboratories during such an emergency, which could make or break the response to a public health crisis.
