Cardiology Question for the Week of June 10, 2019

Question:

In the event that more than one site in the same vessel is treated with percutaneous transluminal coronary thrombectomy (92973), is it appropriate to report for each site treated?

Answer:

From a CPT® coding perspective, 92973 should be reported one time per vessel, regardless of the number of sites treated in the same vessel.

92973 Percutaneous transluminal coronary thrombectomy mechanical (List separately in addition to code for primary procedure)
