Cardiology Question for the Week of August 31, 2020

Question:

Do you have any tips for reporting the pacemaker replacement of a pulse generator with one or more right-sided leads that are also inserted? We are confused about the proper code selection.

Answer:

For pacemaker replacement of a pulse generator and when one or more right-sided leads are also inserted, report code 33206 for atrial lead insertion only, 33207 for ventricular lead insertion only, or 33208 for both atrial and lead insertion. An additional code may be reported for removal of pulse generator 33233 and/or 33234, 33235 for one or more lead removals, as documented.
