Cardiology Question for the Week of December 31, 2018

Question:

What is the intent of code 93463?

Answer:

The code’s intent is to evaluate the responsiveness of the pulmonary circulation to selective pulmonary vasodilators to help guide future therapy. Per CPT, this code should not be reported when coronary interventions (see CPT codes 92920–92944) are performed. Additionally, CPT 93463 should not be assigned when either intracoronary or intravenous coronary thrombolysis is performed.
