Cardiology Question for the Week of February 4, 2019

Question:

If we remove a left ventricular lead from an ICD and replace it with a new one, would we report just 33224?

Answer:

You would report 33244 for removal of the old lead and 33224 for placement of the new LV lead. If the old lead is capped and left in, then only report 33224.Defibrillation-threshold testing, when performed, may be separately reported (93640 or 93642).
