Cardiology Question for the Week of January 17, 2022

Question:

What code would be assigned for inserting a new lead into an existing pacemaker? The old right ventricular (RV) lead was capped, and a new RV lead was inserted.

Answer:

Assign 33216 when a lead is inserted but the pacemaker is not replaced. If the old lead was removed, you also could assign 33234.
