Cardiology Question for the Week of July 25, 2022

Question:

Can you explain what new code 93319 is used for?

Answer:

Code 93319 is used for real-time 3D echocardiography (the 3D is acquired without the need for offline reconstruction – do not report with 76376, 76377). It also includes color flow doppler, so it should not be reported with 93325. It should be used with the transthoracic echo codes for congenital heart defects (93303 and 93304), and transesophageal echo codes 93312, 93314, 93315, 93317 for evaluating congenital or other non-congenital issues (mostly valves).
