Cardiology Question for the Week of July 26, 2021

Question:

How is the following scenario coded? A patient undergoes angioplasty and bare-metal stenting of a distal LC lesion through a vein graft followed by the placement of a separate drug-eluting stent in the proximal native vessel via a separate access.

Answer:

Since different accesses were used, code both procedures separately (even though they were in the same vessel). Assign code 92937-LC to describe the PTCA and bare-metal stent placement through a vein graft. Also, assign code 92928-LC (or C9600-LC for facility billing under OPPS) for the drug-eluting stent placement via a separate access.
