Cardiology Question for the Week of July 27, 2020

Question:

When performing diagnostic imaging, can we report codes 36215 to define catheter placement?

Answer:

Codes from the 36215–36218 series cannot be used to define catheter placement when performing diagnostic imaging, angioplasty, or stenting of the aortic arch, carotid or vertebral vasculature (see all-inclusive codes 36221–36228). Be sure to code to the highest degree of selectivity within a vascular family.
