Question:

Can we bill for an electrocardiogram (EKG) done on the same day as a pacemaker or implantable cardioverter-defibrillator (ICD) check?

Answer:

Diagnostic EKGs ordered and performed prior to or after a procedure may be separately reported with modifier 59. It’s only when the EKG is done during the procedure/session for monitoring that it may not be separately billed.
