Cardiology Question for the Week of March 1, 2021

Question:

When an EKG is ordered and read during the office visit, does that count as two points for the new Evaluation and Management (E/M) coding?

Answer:

For EKG’s if you are billing out 93000 or 93010 under the provider, you can only give one point as these two codes include the interpretation and report and the provider must review the strip to do the interpretation and report. You cannot take credit for the review as part of the E/M as the payment for 93000 and 93010 includes the review, only the order.
