Is code 92973 the appropriate code for aspiration of a thrombus within a coronary vessel?
Answer:
According to the intracoronary language found in the CPT® manual, CPT 92973 should not be reported for aspiration of a thrombus. The CPT manual states, “Non-mechanical, aspiration thrombectomy is not reported with 92973, and is included in the PCI code for acute myocardial infarction (92941), when performed..”
