General Question for the Week of August 15, 2022

Question:

What are the codes for atherectomy in the iliac arteries?

Answer:

Iliac artery atherectomy is assigned Category III code 0238T. This code can be separately assigned with 37220 or 37221 if angioplasty and/or stenting is performed in addition to atherectomy. Code 0238T does not include vascular catheterization, but codes 37220-37223 do, so if iliac atherectomy is performed in the same leg through the same access as iliac angioplasty and/or stent placement, do not assign a catheterization code.
