General Question for the Week of February 6, 2017

Question:

Where can I find the instructions to implement the new Medicare Outpatient Observation Notice?

Answer:

On January 27, 2017, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) issued transmittal 3698 to update Chapter 30 of the Medicare Claims Processing Manual. It now includes detailed instructions related to the Medicare Outpatient Observation Notice (MOON). The transmittal lists February 21, 2017, as the effective and implementation date. For this transmittal, go to https://www.cms.gov/Regulations-and-Guidance/Guidance/Transmittals/2017Downloads/R3698CP.pdf.
