Can we report 96523 for a routine port flush?
Do not assign 96523 for a routine port flush. Instead, review the details for developing criteria for facility or nurse visits, and assign an an appropriate charge for an outpatient visit. Note that some Medicare A/B MACs have issued instructions to report 96523 for scheduled encounters for flush and maintenance of the PICC rather than the clinic visit code of G0463.
