A nurse flushes a patient’s vascular access device (VAD) immediately before and after administering chemotherapy. Should the flushing be billed separately?
The flushing of a vascular access device (VAD) is considered an integral step to providing drug or chemotherapy administration. Do not bill separately for the routine flushing or irrigation of the VAD when it is performed as part of the drug administration services.
