Laboratory Question for the Week of August 9, 2021

Question:

How do we report semi/quantitative in situ hybridization (tissue or cellular) performed by computer-assisted technology?

Answer:

Semi/quantitative in situ hybridization (tissue or cellular) performed by computer-assisted technology should be reported as 88367, +88373, or 88374 when performed by a physician. Manual methods should be reported with codes 88368, +88369, or 88377. Refer to the latest NCCI policy manual for instruction on reporting in situ hybridization by non-physician staff and in conjunction with other procedures.
