What coding guidelines should hospitals follow when a frozen/thawed blood product is not infused and is subsequently destroyed?
When a frozen/thawed product is not infused and is destroyed, the hospital may bill the appropriate freezing and/or thawing CPT® code(s) but not the P-code for the unused blood product.
