Laboratory Question for the Week of December 7, 2020

Question:

Do you have any tips for overutilization monitoring?

Answer:

In order to provide overutilization monitoring, it is best for the information management department to print out the volume statistics by descending order by CPT® code. It is recommended that you count down your top 30 tests and draw a line. Repeat either monthly or quarterly, while documenting any tests that vary by 10 percent or more. Learn to tailor the information to exclude inpatients and payers other than the federally funded programs, your monitoring activities will improve.
