Laboratory Question for the Week of January 29, 2024

Question:

Can you explain some of the rationale behind new 2024 chemistry codes 86041-43, and 86366?

Answer:

Due to advancements in technology, these codes were created to lend greater specificity to the reporting of AChR and MuSK testing services, which were typically previously assigned to the nonspecific codes 83519, 86255, or 86256. Understand that these line items may already exist in the facility chargemaster with nonspecific codes and will require an update to the specific new code for 2024.
