Laboratory Question for the Week of January 30, 2023

Question:

What is the status of the Saving Access to Laboratory Services Act (SALSA) for 2023? Was this included in the omnibus package passed last year?

Answer:

Unfortunately, despite some of the positive results of the Omnibus bill, Congress rejected the hard-fought campaign for the Saving Access to Laboratory Services Act (SALSA). The original bill has multiple missions including:

  • Halting the 15% Medicare cut to laboratory fees,
  • lessening the administrative burden on laboratories
  • and guaranteeing authentic and correct collection of private market data using statistically valid sampling that accounts for all laboratory entities.
